Nigeria committed to peace in Africa – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday affirmed that Nigeria under his leadership would remain at the forefront of efforts aimed at achieving enduring peace, security and progress across the continent of African.

Disclosing this in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari made the pledge while receiving special envoys of President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the statement, the envoys, Maj.-Gen. Evariste Ndayishimiye and Ambassador Dieudonne Kwizera, briefed President Buhari on recent political developments in Burundi.

Buhari noted that Nigeria would continue to support all efforts aimed at achieving political stability in Africa because whatever happens elsewhere in the continent affects Nigeria directly or indirectly.

“President Buhari declared that African leaders must all do their best to achieve greater peace, political stability and security within their countries so that they can give more attention to the urgent task of improving the living conditions of their people,” the statement added.

The President also expressed hope that all warring factions in Burundi should resolve their differences peacefully and learn to work together.
