Nigeria cannot witness change by making it just a slogan – Kudirat Abiola

Dr Hafsat Abiola-Costello, daughter of late pro democracy activist, Kudirat Abiola has stated that the desired change in Nigeria can only be achieved if Nigerians work towards it and not just say it.

She spoke on Sunday at the commemoration of the 21st anniversary of her mother’s death, organised by the Kudirat Abiola Initiative for Democracy (KIND) and Women Arise for Change Initiative (WA).

Kudirat, wife of the late Chief MKO Abiola, was murdered on June 4, 1996, while her husband was in detention.

Hasfat, the President of KIND, noted that: “If all of us start working for change, there will be true change.

“If we are working for change, we must not play the game of corruption or claim to be superior to others.

“We should protect each other for the betterment of Nigeria; this was what Kudirat did.”

In her remarks, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, President of WA, said: “Our problem is as a result of a dysfunctional structure; we have to restructure this country so that we can have true federalism”.

Chief Gani Adams, National Coordinator of Odua People’s Congress (OPC), insisted that Nigeria needed true federalism.

“We have intermarried and are doing things together, but we have yet to put ourselves together as one”.
