Nigeria can only get greater – Indian High Commissioner

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Ajjampur Ghanashyam, has described Nigeria as a powerful country with great potential to sustain its leadership position in Africa.

Ajjampur said this Tuesday night in Abuja when he hosted senior editorial staff of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to a dinner.

The envoy said Nigeria had managed its affairs efficiently in times past and could still realise such age-long dreams in spite of the challenges facing it.

“Nigeria is very powerful; you can make or mar. When I speak, I speak from my heart; if I like a thing, I will tell you.

“Nigeria is a country that I see has a lot of future; you have a nation that has a future and great potential.

“You ran your own railways before, you ran your airways before, you ran state institutions efficiently before. You are a real emerging economy, not just an emerging economy,” he said.

The envoy said though Nigeria had its challenges, he was optimistic things would not be worse than they were at the moment.

“You can’t go lower that this; you have already reached your bottom; this is the lowest you can go. You have to go from here to become the great country that you are,” he said.

Ghanashyam advised that Nigeria could reach greater height in defence industry by starting from the production of simple military tools such as helmet, camouflage, boots and guns to sophisticated ones.

He said India, after establishing its defence corporation, started producing light military arms and ammunition before it developed into a world-class defence industry status.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment toward ensuring the local production of arms and ammunition.
