NHRC vows to bring justice on violators of human rights

The Human Rights Commission, NHRC, yesterday expressed its resolve to bring perpetrators of human rights violation in the country to justice.

The commission’s Executive Secretary, Professor Bem Angwe, read this riot act at a gathering with officials of the National Council of Women Societies, NCWS, in Abuja.

He noted that the declaration was part of measures to curb the number of women and children becoming widows and orphans courtesy of the activities of insurgents.

Professor Angwe, who identified the activities of insurgents as a major challenge to the protection of human rights in the country, promised that the commission would not allow human rights violators to further worsen the situation.

He called on women and victims of domestic violence to stop shielding perpetrators, restating NHRC’s determination to bring those culpable to justice.

Angwe further tasked the Federal Government to establish a social security scheme which would cater for the needs of rape victims and persons whose rights and dignity had been violated.
