NGOs call for tougher punishment on rapists


As a result of the increasing number of rape cases in different communities, causing damage and threat to young girls , Nigerian Clergies’ and Human Right activities/NGos/CSOs, have called for Tougher punishment or life imprisonment for rapists, so as to halt the continuous negative effects on girl-child.

This was contained in a statement issued in Kaduna by the Founder of Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, Pastor Yohannau Buru, who also appealed to Child Protection Networks in Nigeria, UNICEF and government at all levels to quickly enforce laws that will use both the Bible and the Quran to punishing rapists.

Pastor Yohanna urged every Nigerian to support the fight against increasing rape cases, destroying Girl-Child in the country, so as to reduce gang-rape or forcing young children into sex for some selfish interest or for Ritual reasons, adding that, “Nowadays, rapist uses young boys not Girls like before.

“Traditional Rulers, Human Right Organizations, Women Activists and Association of Nigerian Women Lawyers and Women Journalists and market women should also immensely intensify efforts in the fight against increasing cases of rape in communities, in order to save lives of young girls facing daily attack by rapists in the country.

“Such unfortunate and unholy activities contribute immensely in destroying the lives of many innocent Girl-child in the country. This societal ills call for tougher punishment or life imprisonment to serves as a lesson to others, or to even castrate them,” the statement said.
