National Coordinator of the Non Governmental Organization (NGO) I-Nigerian, Miss Ada Apiafi, on Tuesday called on Nigerians to work for peaceful, free and fair elections in February.
Apiafi while briefing newsmen in Abuja.
She said the group was lending its support to the many voices that were calling for peace during the elections.
“It is understandable that in period of elections everybody wants to flex muscles but at the end of the day, national interest must prevail.
“And that is one of the messages that I-Nigerian is sending to everybody; there must be peaceful elections because Nigeria must remain intact after the elections.
“Regardless of what part of the country we are from, we will be collectively affected by the outcome of the elections.
“Therefore, our collective prayer should be for the unity and peace throughout the elections. Nigeria’s greatness comes from us Nigerians, and can only be restored by and through us,” she said.
The national coordinator also called on Nigerians to appreciate the good job that the military was doing in combating insurgency in the North-East, adding that the soldiers were fighting a battle in a very difficult terrain.
Commenting on the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) , Apiafi said the group had been working with emergency management agencies to identify where they were camped.
She said I-Nigerian had also worked with NEMA and other NGOs to give relief materials to the IDPs.
She said the group had also begun moves to establish schools clubs across the FCT, and hoped to realise the project in the first quarter of 2015.
Apiafi said the focus of the club was to build a new generation of Nigerians who would “think positively, act positively and speak positively about themselves as Nigerians”.
“We also have a youth scheme through which we have been empowering youths seeking to go into business.”
