NGF election: Amaechi defeated Jang – Aliyu insists

Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, on Thursday said that the chairmanship election of the Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, that returned Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Ameachi as the winner was intact.

Aliyu, who is the Chairman of Northern States Governors Forum, NSGF, is being accused by his Bauchi state counterpart, Isa Yuguda, for being responsible for the controversy surrounding the election.

Yuguda stated this while fielding questions from State House Correspondents in Abuja.

But the Niger helmsman maintained that indeed an election was conducted by the Governors Forum, and that the ongoing rancor over the outcome does not invalidate the result.

Speaking with newsmen after the quarterly meeting of Northern States Governors held at General Hassan Katsina State House, Kaduna, Aliyu insisted that there was no division among the northern governors over the NGF poll.

He however, observed that the election generated some issues, which he believes would be resolved in due course.

DailyPost learnt that only five out of nineteen members attended the meeting. They are governor Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Babangida Aliyu (Niger) and Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa).

Others are Mukhtar Yero (Kaduna) and Ibrahim Dakwambo (Gombe) Yero, it was gathered, attended the meeting in his position as the host, while Dakwambo showed up as he was absent during the NGF meeting.

Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang and others in his camp were said to have boycotted the parley on the grounds that its chairman, Aliyu, caused his defeat at the NGF election a fortnight ago.
