NGE boss urges media to balance reports

Mr Femi Adesina, President, Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), has stressed the need for journalists to avoid biased reportage in the build up to the general elections.

Adesina gave the advice in Abuja on Thursday at Re-orientation Programme to Sensitise Nigerians on the need for peaceful elections.

Represented by Mr Ikhenna Emewu, Regional Editor, Sun newspaper, Adesina advised journalists to carry out their jobs according to the ethics of the profession.

In the paper entitled: The Role of the Media in an Election, he urged the media to ensure they play their constitutional role conscientiously.

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’ azu, also at the event advised Nigerians to live in unity.

Mu’ azu, represented by Mrs Chinyere Nnorom, Head of Publicity of the party, cautioned politicians against using negative words in electioneering.

He called on Nigerians to turn out en masse to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to enable them to vote for candidates of their choice.

The programme, with the theme: “The Next President Talkshow on Election 2015”, was organized by the Nigerian Guild of Editors and Living Legends Foundation, an NGO.
