The Organizing Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), are expected to meet and decide on a new date and venue for the finals of the 2015 Federation Cup competitions.
Speaking on the reason for the development, the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, explained that the date the men and women teams will travel to the 11th All-Africa Games, coincides with the date initially proposed for the finals.
“It is true that at the draw ceremony for the national finals of the Federation Cup, the NFF had picked August 30 as date for the grand finale. But a number of factors have now combined to make the date unrealistic,” he said.
“Yes, we have the finalist teams in both the men and women events. But our Super Falcons and the U-23 men’s team will travel to Brazzaville for the All-Africa Games at about the same day, and a number of the teams involved in the grand finale have players in the two teams.
“The 11th All-Africa Games will end on September 19. We will pick a date for the Federation Cup grad finale after this date, but most likely the date would be towards the end of September.”
In the men’s final, Lobi Stars will take on Akwa United, while Bayelsa Queens and Sunshine Queens will square up in the women’s final.
