The Golden Eaglets will no longer receive match bonuses, after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), scrapped it because of lack of funds.
Other developmental teams affected by the decision, are the U-17 female team, the Flamingoes, U-13 and U-15 national teams.
“The players of these national teams will no longer be entitled to match bonus because of lack of funds caused by the economic downturn in the country,” a top official informed AfricanFootball.
The Eaglets received $1,000-a-player as win bonus at major tournaments.
NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, admitted that the federation is cash-strapped, but insisted some of the national teams will not be scrapped.
“Funding has been very, very poor for the federation,” he said.
