A former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has called on the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, to support the federation’s bid to hire a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.
Maigari pointed out that the NFF had tried the best of local coaches over the last years but had not achieved much.
“I learnt the minister of sports is not in support of hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles and is set to direct the NFF to appoint a Nigerian coach that will lead the team after the exit from the Africa Cup of Nation billed for 2017 in Gabon but I want to advise the minister to tread with caution and allow the NFF to decide,” Maigari told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The Super Eagles need a foreign coach to move up to the next level. The senior national team in my opinion has grown bigger than Nigerian coaches and the minister should respect whoever the NFF chooses to handle the Eagles. Our coaches have tried their best in handling the Super Eagles but it is obvious that their best is not enough.
“For the Eagles to dominate Africa again, we need a foreign coach who would harness the emerging young talents we are blessed with. We need a coach that will not be biased or sentimental in selecting his team, a coach that will be above board and very disciplined. The bane of our local coaches is discipline and poor reading of the game.” .
