The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has confirmed that its lawyers are assessing the possibility of changing the rules of the AFCON 2017 qualifying series, after Chad pulled out of Group G.
Chad’s withdrawal now means only one country can qualify for the tournament in Gabon from the group.
The West African country cited financial difficulties as the reason for pulling out.
“It is rather unfortunate that Chad, one of the teams in the qualification group, suddenly pulled out of the race, leaving only three teams left in the group, and only the winner of the group guaranteed qualification,” read in part the official NFF statement.
“This appeared to have taken away our worst –case scenario of qualification.
“However, our legal unit is looking at the propriety of changing the rules midstream.”
