Stephen Keshi will not be paid as much as he got during his first tenure as Super Eagles boss, if he signs a new deal with Nigeria.
According to reports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), are offering Keshi N4m per month as against N5m he recieved previously.
“What has been done is just a simple adjustment of the pay to fit into the reality of our time. The football system is not different in any way from the general economy of the country,” a source told PUNCH.
“We are all aware that the world oil market has tumbled down and this is not peculiar to Nigeria. And so as other countries adjust we too will have to cut budget to reality. Would it make any sense to say N10m and not be able to even pay N1m at the end of the month? We are being realistic and we believe that he understands.”
It is understood that Keshi’s reps pressed for N7m per month, but the NFF made it clear they cannot afford to pay the Big Boss that.
Keshi, who is also a three-man shortlist to replace Paul Put as Burkina Faso coach, is said to have been offered a two-year deal which will expire in 2017. The contract demands that the former Mali and Togo boss qualifies the Eagles for the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012, before any extension can be discussed.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick, has already said they expect Keshi to respond to the offer this week.
