Neymar’s father, Neymar Snr., has once again dismissed reports that his son left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain because of money.
The Brazil forward became the most expensive footballer, when he left Barcelona for the Ligue 1 giants last summer.
In an interview with Telefoot, Neymar’s father claimed his son’s intentions were for professional reasons.
“His friends Messi, [Luis] Suarez, [Ivan] Rakitic and [Gerard] Pique all tried to hold on to him. It was very difficult but Neymar really wanted to come,” he said.
“He wanted this challenge and we supported him. But his decision to come to Paris did take me by surprise. We had an offer last year but we didn’t reach an agreement.
“This time Paris Saint-Germain’s offer was very interesting. The idea of winning the Champions League and the league pleased him.
“The truth is that it was me who hesitated until the last moment.
“I said to Neymar that ‘you’re relaxed, you’re in your comfort zone at Barcelona so the best choice for you is to stay.’ But he wanted to get out [of his comfort zone] and put himself in danger, to take a risk.”
Neymar has made eight appearances for the French club since his huge summer move and has scored eight times in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
