Neymar has spoken of the “anguish” his international team-mate, Philippe Coutinho, is in as Liverpool refuse to sanction his move to Barcelona.
Coutinho remained desperate to leave Anfield for Spain this summer and even submitted a transfer request to try and force through a deal.
However, the Reds have chosen not to accept any bid from Barca and are adamant the 25-year-old is going nowhere.
Coutinho, who has not played at all for Liverpool this season, came on as a substitute and scored Brazil’s second as they beat Ecuador 2-0 on Thursday in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.
Neymar, who left Barcelona in a world record €222million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain last month, has now revealed that Coutinho was unable to enjoy the occasion.
“Unfortunately, instead of being a happy time for him [Coutinho], for his family, it’s a moment of anguish, disappointment and sadness,” Neymar told ESPN FC.
“I like to see him happy because he is a team-mate and a friend that I’ve had for a long time.
“He was rewarded with a goal today, for his and our joy.”
