Neymar given three-game suspension, to miss El Clasico

Barcelona forward, Neymar, has been handed a three-match suspension for applauding referee Gil Manzano in their 2-0 loss to Malaga last weekend.

This effectively rules out the Brazilian from the El Clasico later this month.

Neymar was sent off for a second bookable offence at the Rosaleda, a punishment that automatically carries a one-match ban.

However, Gil Manzano noted Neymar’s sarcastic applause in his match report. And on Tuesday, the Spanish Football Federation’s Competitions Committee confirmed that on top of the original ban, the player would miss two more games for dissent against the match official.

Neymar will miss this Saturday’s home fixture against Real Sociedad and the game at Real Madrid the following week.

Barca currently trail Madrid by three points, with Zinedine Zidane’s men also having an outstanding match.
