Robin van Persie and Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez both scored two goals, as Manchester United began 2013 in imperious form. The pair were grabbed a goal each, as the Premiership leaders defeated Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, where they had lost last season, as City came from behind to win the League.

City, playing at home, did not need to move into second gear, as they comfortably dispatched Stoke City 3-0, with Zabaleta, Aguero and Dzeko getting the goals.

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to defeat Reading 3-1, Danny Graham struck late to earn Swansea a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, while West Ham beat Norwich 2-1 at Upton Park.
