The new president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has shown over time that he is not too keen on Stephen Keshi being in charge of the national team.
Keshi’s contract expired after the 2014 World Cup, but he took charge of the Super Eagles in their two AFCON qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.
He is expected to handle the team for their double header against Sudan this month, after which the new NFF executive committee headed by Pinnick, will decide his fate.
From previous comments, it seems the Big Boss might not be in charge much longer.
“I like Keshi as a person, but the Eagles run-up to the World Cup and their first game (vs Iran) has proved to me that Keshi has reached his limit,” Pinnick said on a television programme during Brazil 2014.
“He is a national hero. I celebrate him for all he has achieved with the team in such a short time, but it appears he can’t move the Eagles forward unless he improves on his abilities.”
Pinnick also felt Keshi’s coaching approach is not scientific and blamed him for the African champions’ early exit from the tournament.
“We failed to go further in Brazil because our coaches did not adopt the scientific approach to winning matches. Football has gone beyond having a coaching crew on the bench,” he said.
“The trend now is to have the technical back-room staff, peopled by expert coaches, who win matches from the bench.”
