Former Manchester United defender, Phil Neville, has claimed goalkeeper David De Gea was dropped by Jose Mourinho, for their 3-0 win at Sunderland on Sunday.
Neville insisted he did not buy the official reason that the Spaniard was left out due to a “little problem” and says his omission could be linked with Real Madrid’s interest in signing him.
“I’m still amazed at David De Gea – it looks like he’s been dropped to me,” Neville told the rest of the pundits on Sky Sports during the game.
“If he was injured, it’d be a simple thing in the press conference, saying: ‘De Gea’s carrying an injury, we’ve saving him for Thursday’.
“I’m amazed, it’s a big opportunity for Romero, all must not be well with De Gea.
“You know when Madrid likes a player, they tend to come and get him. So it’d be a worry, if I were a United fan.”
Ahead of the Sunderland game, Mourinho confirmed De Gea missed training but said he would not be out for a long time.
