The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has donated relief materials to victims of attacks in Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Malam Musa Illalah, the North-West Coordinator of NEMA, handed over the materials to the interim chairman of Jama’a Local Government Area, Dr. Begs Katuka, for onward distribution to the victims.
DAILY POST reports that people of Godogodo area were attacked on October 15 by suspected herdsmen, during which no fewer than 44 people were reported dead.
Another community, Missisi in Pasakori area was also attacked, living seven people dead.
Illalah said, ”The gesture is not compensation for the loss of lives and property, but a token to cushion the effects of the crisis.
”The agency had two weeks ago provided some relief materials to the victims, but needed to do more in view of the people’s demands.”
Some of the items distributed to the victims include 100 bags of rice, 200 bags of maize, 100 bags of guinea corn, 50 cartons of tomato paste and salt.
Other are 200 bundles of roofing sheets, 100 packs of roofing nails, 500 blankets and clothings.
Illalah, however, condoled with the Kaduna State government and its people over the loss of lives and property to the crisis.
While receiving the items, Katuka thanked NEMA for the donation, saying that the agency’s prompt response was an indication that Nigeria had a caring government.
He said that with tolerance and peace, there would have been no need for the relief materials.
He told management of the agency that a committee had been set up to ensure that the materials reached the victims.
