A Northern group known as the North-East Youth Peace and Empowerment Initiative, NEYPEI, has alleged that Northern politicians serving in the current administration are being persecuted.
NEYPEI made the allegation against the backdrop of Senator Ali Ndume’s suspension by the Senate.
The group noted that Ndume was right to call for the probe of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator from Kogi West, Dino Melaye over allegations against them.
Recall that Ndume had during a recent plenary session raised a point of order demanding the probe of Melaye for allegedly parading fake certificate and Saraki over his connection with an SUV. http://dailypost.ng/2017/03/21/senate-investigate-saraki-dino-melaye-seized-range-rover-certificate-scandal/
Against this backdrop, the senate had suspended Ndume for six months after it cleared both Saraki and Melaye.http://dailypost.ng/2017/03/29/breaking-senate-suspends-ali-ndume-clears-saraki-dino-melaye-wrongdoing/
However, the group, in a statement by its National President, Kyari Idris Abubakar said: “The suspension of Sen. Ndume for drawing the attention of the members of the National Assembly to a newspaper publication indicting Sen. Dino Melaye on the issue of certificate must not warrant his suspension for a period of six months. There’s no law that backs the Senate’s action.
“The case of Col. Hameed Ali, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Custom Service, that of Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the suspension of Sen. Ali Ndume, and the allegations against Babachir David Lawal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, among others are the many persecutions of the leaders and political appointees from the north-east.
“We advise that our leaders and political appointees from the North-East should be left alone to perform their official duties; all conspiracies, false allegations to pull them down will be seriously challenged by the North-east youths.”
