The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Osun State Command, has seized 272kg of Canabis Sativa, popularly called India Hemp, arresting one suspect in the process.
Samuel Egbeola, the state commandant of the agency disclosed this through a statement he made available to journalists in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Saturday.
According to him, the substance which was in transit along Ifewara, in Atakumosa East Local Government Area was packed in nineteen sacks, before it was discovered by vigilant officers of the agency on January 4.
The commander attributed high crime rate in any society to drug abuse, adding that all hands must be on deck to nip criminality in the bud by exposing illegal drug activities, as he promised the agency’s commitment in ridding the state of drug abuse.
“The intelligence on this seizure was given by good people of the state and we solicit for more of this from them.
“Investigation has commenced. We are always ready to achieve our mandate of making the state a drug free state”, he said.
