NDLEA nabs soldier, six others for drug activities in Bayelsa


A serving military personnel alongside six others have been arrested by the Bayelsa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for dealing in illegal drugs.

This was disclosed by the anti-narcotics agency’s Superintendent, Mr. Osakwe Ikenna, on Thursday. He stressed that the suspects were rounded up from various parts of the state in the last one week.

Ikenna noted that over 32kg of different types of drugs have been seized and removed from circulation.

The superintendent also said an unnamed 35-year-old serving military personnel was among those arrested.

He said, “The military personnel was arrested by operatives from the State Command on motorised patrol along the East-West Road while ferrying a 30kg of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

“He was coming from Delta State area en route Rivers State before he was nabbed.”

Ikenna identified the other suspects as, Christian Ayebakuro, male, 34, and Peter Johnson, 24, among others.

He further disclosed that Ayebakuro was nabbed with two kilogrammes of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, while Johnson on his part was caught with various quantities and types of drugs.

Ikenna who urged residents to stop patronizing hard drugs as offenders will be prosecuted, also called on parents to monitor the activities of their children and wards.

“All residents of the state are advised to keep watchful eyes on the activities of their children and wards to ensure that they are not inadvertently lured into illicit drug activities.

“They are also advised to be vigilant of the activities in their immediate environment and ensure that all illegal drug activities are reported to the State Command for expeditious action,” Ikenna affirmed.
