The Jigawa Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency on Friday disclosed that it has apprehended 92 persons for allegedly indulging in illegal drugs activities across the State between January and June this year.
This disclosure was made through a release signed by the State Commandant of the anti-narcotic agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Abdul, in Dutse.
According to Abdullahi, the command seized 151.704 kilogrammes of hard drugs within the period under review.
The State Commandant further noted that the agency made a major seizure of 22.350kg of cannabis belonging to one Muhammad Aminu, who was nabbed on June 1 at Gumel.
“The major seizure within this time is that of 22.350kgs of cannabis belonging to Muhammad Jazuli and Sani Aminu all arrested in Gumel on the 1st of June 2015,” he affirmed.
Abdullahi further stated that the agency counselled and rehabilitated 60 drug addicts during the period under review.
He said the anti-narcotic agency would carry out enlightenment programmes across the State to sensitise people on the dangers of drug abuse, adding that the decision was informed on the basis of the rising number of youths that abuse commonly prescribed drugs like Cough syrups, Tramol and Valium.
Abdullahi observed that the major challenge facing the agency’s operation was that of mobility to cover every area of the state.
