The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has charged two men, identified as Gabriel Obi and Ugwu Geofrey, who allegedly imported 110 kilogrammes of cocaine into the country from Bolivia before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
The suspects were docked by the NDLEA, on a two count charge of drug trafficking.
While testifying in court, the prosecutor, Mrs Ahaji Obiageri, said the accused persons in connivance with one Chimezie Akunna now at large committed the crime.
Both suspects were arrested by the anti-narcotic agency in January 2011 at the Tin-Can Port in Lagos.
It was gathered that the suspects imported the illegal substance into the country from Bolivia in a container.
The charges read, “That you, Gabriel Obi, Ugwu Geofrey and Akunna Chimezie, on or about January, 13, 2011, at the Tin-Can Port, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, without lawful authority, imported 110 kg of cocaine from Bolivia, South America, using a container ─ MSCU 3668026 ─ thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
The accused pleaded not guilty when the charges were read.
The court however adjourned the case till June 24.
