The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has decried the alarming rate of drug abuse among teenagers in Rivers state.
The Zonal Coordinator of NDLEA, Rachael Shelleng made the disclosure during a meeting between security agencies and stakeholders in Rivers state.
Shelleng, in what she described as an unfortunate situation, said the use of drugs by teenagers propels the teens and young youths to commit crimes in the state.
She said the use of Tramadol and codein among teenagers has become the responsibility of stakeholders in the state to curb.
According to her, “We need to tackle drug issue. It is a very serious issue. Unfortunately, Primary students have become the worst for it because they are now into drugs. Small children now take Tramadol and other dangerous drugs.
“Everybody is a stakeholder when it comes to drug issue. I want to appeal to parents, please always monitor you child. Always notice whenever he’s doing somethings strange.”
