The FCT Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Saturday said it would embark on anti-narcotics campaign towards curtailing drug trafficking in the area.
Mr Peter Adegbe, Public Relations Officer of the Command, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the agency would sensitise the people to expose drug traffickers in their midst.
According to him, the FCT command has beefed up surveillance in Abaji, Gwagwalada, Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Councils to tackle drug traffickers.
“The FCT command will not allow these agents of wares of destruction to infiltrate the territory.
“To this effect, the Command’s stop and search strategy has been beefed up with many attendant successes.
“We have also increased our sensitization of the general public, especially the youths”, he said.
The PRO explained that the command had also focused its campaigns on schools, motor parks, entertainment joints, hotels, to educate the public on the dangers of illicit drugs.
“We are also collaborating with relevant non-governmental organisations and other security agencies”, he added.
The spokesman appealed to all Nigerians to support the Agency’s efforts at reducing the spate of insecurity in the country.
He said that the command was ready to discharge its responsibility with adequate funding..
Adegbe advised the youths to embrace dignity and hard work, saying that these were more rewarding than indulging in criminality. (NAN)
