No fewer than 151 suspects have been arrested in connection with various drug offences in Kogi State.
The State Commandant, National Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Alhaji Idris Bello disclosed this in Lokoja at a news conference organized in commemoration of the 2017 United Nations Drug Day with the theme, “Listen First.”
The suspects according to the commandant were arrested between January to June this year.
Bello while noting that the command seized a total of 3498.035kg of Cannabis Sativa popularly called Indian hemp and other psychotropic substances such as, Tramadol, Diazepam, Rohypnol and Codeine in the period under review, added that six of the suspects arrested were female.
The commandant also explained that twelve (12)drug offenders have been sentenced to various terms in prison, ten(10) cases pending at the Federal high Court, Seventy two(72) of those arrested were released for want of evidence while fifty seven(57) were counseled under the short intervention programme.
According to him ” Five vehicles and trucks were impounded during this period, while four drug dependent persons including one female were rehabilitated”.
The NDLEA boss, however, cautioned motorist to be mindful of the things they convey in their vehicles.
“Our men are always on the road ready to apprehend and impound any vehicle conveying drugs. Landlords and house owners should be Vigilant so as not to lease out their properties to drug dealers.”
Bello also called on all stakeholders, especially parents to listen to their wards, and children, stressing that ” When you listen to them, then you will know what is going on in them and around them.”
