The regulatory body of polytechnics and other technical institutions of learning in the country, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has advised heads of the 556 institutions under it to shun the act of borrowing lecturers to get accreditation.
The board lamented that, “transparency is lacking in our institutions today. In most of the visitations carried out, it was observed that most schools
borrow/source for staff from nearby institutions to fill up the missing gaps. This is not proper and heads of various institutions should ensure zero tolerance to corruption of this nature.”
The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Mas’udu Adamu Kazaure made the call while delivering a keynote address at a workshop on carrying
capacity organized for the heads of the institutions.
The NBTE boss told the workshop participants that, the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has zero tolerance to corruption and frowns at all corrupt practices.
According to him, “NBTE and all polytechnics are also expected to ensure zero tolerance to corruption. This issue of transparency in the provision of facilities by institutions should be strictly adhered to,” he said.
Dr. Kazaure said, even though it was obvious that carrying capacity was not an easy matter to fully implement in the nation’s tertiary technical institutions, its benefits clearly show that it is
important to follow the rules to achieve it.
He said for institutions to get approval for additional streams, it must henceforth meet the criteria of; standardised classrooms, literary books and journals for at least, 100 titles, well-furnished
staff offices, laboratories, workshops, studios, equipments and staffing.
The one-day workshop had in attendance Rectors of polytechnics from across Nigeria, heads of other higher technical institutions of learning and top management staff of NBTE.
