NBTE tasks polytechnics on automated registry, e-admin

National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has urged polytechnics and other technical tertiary institutions’ administrations and registrars to update their skills on new ways and methods of technologically driven techniques.‬

‪Executive Secretary of NBTE, Dr Masa’udu Adamu Kazaure, made the call Tuesday while addressing the opening of National Workshop for Registrars and Deputy Registrars of Nigerian Polytechnics and Monotechnics jointly organised by NBTE, National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration and Conference of Registrars of Nigerian Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology at NBTE TVET Centre Kaduna.‬

‪Dr. Kazaure, represented by the Director Human Resources NBTE, Malam Sheriff Sanda, told the registrars and deputy registrars from various polytechnics and Monotechnics in the north that there was need for tertiary institutions’ registries to be automated, adding that e-administration should be applied in governing the Nigerian polytechnics and monotechnics in line with international best practices.‬

‪”The workshop is designed at improving skills of the polytechnic registrars and their deputies in leadership and strategic management as well as effective policy statement implementation in the decision making processes.‬

‪”Participants will learn a lot in e-administration, leadership styles, communication processes, and other topics relevant to the administration and academic activities of the registrars.‬

‪”The polytechnic administration and the registrars need to update their knowledge and skills especially with the advent of new ways and methods of technologically driven techniques.‬

‪”This workshop will bring about radical transformations in some aspects of administrative and academic activities in the registry.‬

‪”The registry needs to be automated to secure paper records, streamline registry processes and reduce organisational bottlenecks all of which requires innovative tools and approaches.”‬

‪The Executive Secretary, National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, Dr Anselm Njoku, represented by the Director Training and Research, Dr David Shofoyeke, said, “The overall aim of this training is to enable participants to manage their schools effectively and efficiently by acquiring skills in leadership and strategic management, e-administration, analyse decision making processes for policy statement implementation, conflict resolution and leadership concept.”‬

‪The Chairman Conference of Registrars of Nigerian Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology, who is also Registrar, Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Yobe state, Alhaji Mohammed Hassan Gora, commended the organiser for putting the workshop together saying that was what the country needs now.‬

‪”The workshop was informed by the determination of the federal government to improve Nigerian educational system. As registrars and deputy registrars we play strategic roles in implementing policies of government”, he said.
