The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas has disclosed that the Nigerian Navy paid over N1billion in fine for the misconduct of its personnel in the last four years.

The Naval chief stated this at the weekend while addressing Naval personnel in Calabar.

Ibas warned his men to respect members of the public and avoid causing the force unnecessary expenditures.

He further cautioned Naval Ratings to be very careful in the discharge of their duties, adding that there were pending cases against them at the courts with attendant fines.

“I call on all of you to relate well with the civilian populace. We are supposed to be protecting the civilians and not to harass or molest them. The Navy under me would not condone any act of barbarism. If you misuse the weapon we give you, we will try you and dismiss you’’, he said.

Ibas also advised his men to report misconducts by members of the public to the appropriate authorities, adding that efforts were on to ensure that the professional skills of Ratings were upgraded and better accommodation provided for them.
