National Assembly is an indispensable symbol of democracy – Wamakko

Former Sokoto governor and senator representing Sokoto Central, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, has assured that federal lawmakers would work closely with President Muhammadu Buhari to take Nigeria out of its present predicaments, describing the National Assembly as an indispensable symbol of democracy.

Wamakko, who made this assertion in Sokoto on Wednesday night during an interactive session with journalists, stated that the National Assembly would not work against anything that would be beneficial to Nigerians.

While pointing out that the legislature is an amalgam of Nigerians, with diverse backgrounds and statuses, he said it will strive to push for Nigeria’s recovery. He said: “We will continue to support the president to take Nigeria to greater heights, as well as ensure the improvement of the living standard of Nigerians.

“We are representing all Nigerians, and we will continue to do this diligently.

“National Assembly will not work against anything that will better the situation in Nigeria and for all Nigerians.

“As lawmakers, we are closer to the people in the grassroots and all our local communities. “We know the feelings of the generality of Nigerians and we will work tirelessly, to take Nigeria out of the woods,” Wamakko said.

The senator stressed that the essence of the separation of powers was to ensure checks and balances, not to hinder progress.

While describing the National Assembly as an indispensable symbol of democracy, he said: “We live with the people, we dine with them and we know their feelings, as well as concerns.

“We are also too concerned with the current happenings in the country, all of us as Nigerians must, however, rededicate ourselves, make sacrifices and come together to ensure that Nigeria is back to her sound footing.”
