NASS: There’s grand conspiracy against Imo State – APC Group

The Southeast All Progressives Congress, APC, Grassroots Mobilisers has kicked against what it called plans by some leaders of the party at the national level to completely shut out the Imo State chapter from any of the principal positions in the House of Representatives and the Senate.

This formed part of a statement issued by the group and made available to DAILY POST Monday morning.

The statement was signed by Chimaraoke Uzoma, Abia State coordinator, Benjamin Ekeanyanwu, Imo State coordinator, Ohaeri Placid, Ebonyi State coordinator, Oguh Chijioke

Enugu State Coordinator and Ekwueme Anthony, Anambra State Coordinator.

They alleged of a systematic conspiracy “to extinct the APC from Imo State – the birthplace of the APC in the entire Southeast.”

The statement read in part: “It is important to remind our leaders that among the five States in the Southeast, only Imo State and Abia State have elected members of the National Assembly on our Party’s platform. It is only fair that, considering the enormous contributions of the Imo State chapter of the APC towards sustaining the Party in the Southeast, Imo should be considered for any leadership position of the 9th National Assembly zoned to the Southeast. This is both fair and politically correct.

“We remind our Party leaders that Imo State, until recently, was the only State in the Southeast with an APC governor and Imo State also gave the Party the highest number of votes during the presidential election, among all the States in the Southeast.

“We appeal to the good conscience of all Party leaders not to allow our Party to die in the Southeast, by going ahead to shut out Imo State from getting any principal office zoned to the Southeast.

“We also appeal to the good consciences of our eminent Party leaders to understand that the Imo State APC needs the morale boosting effect of such strategic positions, as NASS principal offices to keep the Party afloat in the State, and be able to sustain the opposition force in the State, for as long as we may be in opposition. concentrating all the key principal positions outside Imo State.

“The State which we recently lost to the PDP, in controversial circumstances stands the brightest chance of being restored to our Party, going by the formidable grassroots structure our Party enjoys across the State.”

“However, the absence of strategic political positions, such as NASS principal office may dampen the morale of our teeming supporters in that State and increase the chances of some of them defecting to other Parties, especially, the PDP, which is in power at the moment in that State.

“Finally, we congratulate the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan, his deputy, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase on their deserved election as presiding officers of the 9th National Assembly.

“We are positive that given their backgrounds as fair-minded democrats and progressives, they will lend their weight to our patriotic appeals,” they added.
