NASS election: I have not been served by court on open ballot system – Clerk

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Sani Omolori on Tuesday told Senator Jibrin Barau (APC) that he doesn’t have a voice until he had been sworn into office as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Senator Jibrin Barau (APC) asked the Clerk if he had been served with Court judgement directing that open ballot in election of principal officers be applied in the 9th Assembly.

Controversy was stirred initially over whether the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Sani Omolori was served with Court order over Open ballot system in today’s election of Principal officers.

Senator Adeola Olamilekan also insisted that the Clerk to the Senate must confirm before proceeding with activities of the day.

Reacting, Mr. Sani Omolori said, he was yet to be served. He added that he was presiding the election based on constitutional provisions, insisting that he would not answer any questions that has nothing to do with elections anymore.

“Senators-elect, I said, I have not been served with any court order. If I did, I would have said so and out of respect, I am answering you. ”

” After now, I am not going to answer questions that have nothing to do with elections. Clerk to the Senate, can you please go ahead with the roll call of Senators?”
