The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) may not end soon as the major players are showing no preparedness to shift grounds.
In continuation of its bid have its wishes respected, the APC on Friday called a meeting involving the leadership of the House of Representatives.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and his deputy, Yusuf Suleiman Lasun were invited.
The meeting was called to resolve the logjam at the green chamber caused by election of the duo, ahead of next week’s resumption.
DAILY POST gathered that the leadership of the party, led by its Chairman, John Odigie Oyegun appealed to Lasun to step down for a member backed by it.
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, in attendance with Lasun (who is from the South-West state) had been mandated to talk to his kinsman to resign from the position.
At the meeting, Oyegun reportedly asked Lasun to make his decision known to the gathering.
Responding, the Deputy Speaker spoke in clear terms that he would not vacate the seat because “he won squarely in the free and fair election”.
According to him, majority of his colleagues gave him the mandate and he would not betray their trust and confidence by throwing in the towel when he had done nothing wrong.
A source privy to the meeting said Oyegun, confused of what next to say, appealed to Lasun to “go back and think what we discussed over.”
While Dogara left APC secretariat just before 12 noon, behind whom he left at the venue came out of the parley two hours later.
Both men refused to speak to newsmen.
