NASS crisis: “Alasoadura must apologize for defying party’s directive” – Ond

The crisis rocking the National Assembly took another dimension in Ondo State on Tuesday as members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akure South and North has called on Senator Tayo Alasoadura to show remorse over his support to Senator Bukola Saraki against the party’s directive.

At a press conference in Akure, the state capital, a former member of the House of Representatives and Chieftain of the party in the state, Honorable Ifedayo Abegunde, who addressed journalists with members of the party executive in the central Senatorial district, urged Senator Alasoadura to retrace his steps rather than embarking on political propaganda in the media.

The support given to Senate President, Bukola Saraki by Senator Alasoadura has been receiving a lot of condemnation from his party members in his local government and the state.

Hon. Abegunde said Chief Alasoadura should swallow his pride and come back to the party as a prodigal son and submit himself for necessary actions.

He noted that the Senator should have shown remorse and apologize to his party because of the public outcry the issue of Senator Saraki’s emergence as Senate President has generated.

He said “Chief Alasoadura made it clear that he is the only Yoruba man in the south west from APC that voted for Senator Saraki against the directive of his party”.

Hon. Abegunde noted that the situation became worrisome when the state chairman of the party, Honorable Isaac Kekemeke led some party leaders to celebrate at Senator Alasoadura’s home town in Iju at his victory thanksgiving.

He wondered why the state chairman of the party would celebrate a man who joined few misguided and disloyal party members to put the party into mess.

“We want to state clearly, that Chief Alasoadura neither consulted us nor had our mandate to go against our party’s directives for an unholy alliance with opposition party, which resulted in the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Ekweremadu, a PDP senator, as deputy SenatePresident in a house dominated by the APC.

“Chief Alasoadura has up till now failed to explain to his Senatorial district the reason for his obnoxious actions to plan a coup against his own party that brought him up the stage”.

The APC chieftain said the action of Senator Alasoadura did not represent the opinion and character of Akure people home and abroad.

He emphasized that the party in the state is in the same boat with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who had severally salvage the party in the state at various critical periods.
