Following a 3-hour closed door session by the Senate on Wednesday where it resolved to settle issues bothering on smooth operations of the Assembly, a 12-man Committee has been inauguration to reconcile factions.
In his speech, Senate Leader, Ali Ndume tasked members to reach out to all those involved in one struggle or the other that has cracked the National Assembly in line with the mandate so as to move the institution forward.
According to him, two members each were drawn from six geopolitical zones with the purpose of reaching out to those who might have been aggrieved as a result of leadership tussle that has put the National Assembly under Saraki in bad light in the last one year.
He believes that the development would end all differences which were normal in a democratic setting.
“I have the mandate to inaugurate this Committee which will in the course of their assignments reach out to all those involved in issues that entangle smooth operations of the National Assembly, believing that all differences would be put to rest,” Ndume maintained.
Meanwhile, the session which was presided by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu on Wednesday acknowledged that all was not well in the Senate, hence, there was need to take steps to resolve differences irrespective of party affiliations in the Senate.
He also added that the Senate will stand by its President, Bukola Saraki in his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal until proven guilty.
“We have resolved to stand with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki in his trial until proven guilty,” Ekweremadu maintained.
