Umaru Tanko Al-Makura

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, recently travelled abroad for hip replacement surgery, an online news site, Newsdiaryonline has reported.

One of the Governor’s aides, who confirmed the information, said Al-Makura went for a hip correction he had been “battling with for about ten years now.”

The aide added that the medical trip was successful and that the Governor was back to shape, although is still recuperating.

Findings about hip replacement surgery, reveals that it involves replacing components of the hip joint with a synthetic implant, to repair the damaged bearing surfaces that are causing pain. In the case of a total hip replacement, both the thigh bones (femur) and the socket are replaced with synthetic implant materials.

Usually, the design of the implant offers renewed stability and function. The surgical procedure relieves pain, helps hip joint work well, and restore normal walking and other movements.

The health conditions of Nigeria’s state Governors have become a major concern. Presently, Danbaba Suntai (Taraba), Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Sullivan Chime (Enugu State) are all outside the country for medical treatment.

Idris Wada of Kogi would have joined his ailing colleagues, but for his insistence on seeking local treatment after he sustained a fractured thigh in a fatal auto crash about two weeks ago.
