The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Enugu State chapter, has joined the campaign for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
To demonstrate this, the Council of Student Union Presidents of all the higher institutions in Enugu State has inaugurated a 200-man Student Central Working Committee for Jonathan’s re-election.
The students also announced their support for election of the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The Student Union Presidents, who were supported by the Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, at a rally held at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, also inaugurated five ward coordinators for the actualization of their dreams for Jonathan and Ugwuanyi.
As part of the plans to actualize their ambition, the SUG Presidents mobilized thousands of students to show their solidarity during the rally, where prominent people promised to support the students in their bid to ensure victory for Jonathan and Ugwuanyi in 2015.
Addressing the students at Okpara square, the Executive Director of Youths Initiative for Leadership and Rural Development, (YILARD), the organisation that partnered with the students, Iloefe Ugochukwu James said the students were drawn from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu (IMT), Enugu State University of Science and Technology, (ESUT), University of Nigeria (UNN), among others.
He explained that their resolve to support Jonathan and Ugwuanyi was informed by their unprecedented support to the students in the past.
Ugochukwu, who addressed journalists alongside the ESUT SUG President, Prince Afam Nnaji, Chairman of stakeholders, Comrade Achuonye Obinna, among others, disclosed that the leaders of the students had earlier visited Professor Nebo at Abuja to show their solidarity.
He stated further that the students promised the minister during the visit that they would also show their solidarity for Jonathan and Ugwuanyi in Enugu through the rally that took place in Enugu.
Ugochukwu assured that Professor Nebo had promised to sponsor the students in all their campaigns for the President.
The Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo was represented by Engr. Ifeanyi Eze while Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was represented by Hon Ogbo Asogwa.
