NAFDAC moves against food, drug adulterators in Yobe

The state coordinator, National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Yobe State, Alhaji Lawan Musa Dadingel has said that the agency has made a seizure of over thirty (30) jerricans of conterminated palm oil in potiskum market.

Speaking on Thursday, in Damaturu, the Yobe state Capital, Musa said NAFDAC was trying hard to make sure that the state is safe of all forms of adulterated food, drugs and medical facilities ,adding that it will make sure that what people consume in Yobe state come from genuine manufacturers and producers.

He also said insurgency has also contributed to people engaging in illegal businesses in order to make money or are being used by disgruntled elements in the name of making money through all forms of adulteration particularly, the production of sachet water.

According to him, “Recently, we were in potiskum market, we closed down some palm oil selling point and sample have been taken and we confirmed that the people have been adulterating their product. We have imposed sanction on them and also warned people in order to safeguard their health.”

Alhaji Musa also explained that effort to secure the state and ensure safe food, drugs and medical devices is on, stressing that NAFDAC would not relent in its effort at making sure that the state is safe from bad elements who bring in adulterated foods and drugs.

He said, “For those operating pure water industries in the state, we have made it clear to them that unregistered water has no room in state. Also the same goes to drugs. We are going round and would arrest anyone found wanting because we are aware of the tactics being employed by the Boko Haram insurgents, particularly in poisoning water as well as disguising as drug vendors to perpetrate their evil deeds.”

He maintained that, recently NAFDAC sampled at least, 60 bakeries and found out that they do not add bromine to their bread, which is encouraging.

He, however, said that, NAFDAC would continue to sensitize bakery owners on the dangers of bromine and will continue to monitor progress in Yobe state.
