National Agency for Food, Drugs, Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday arraigned 39 years old Joseph Odaleye in a Federal High Court over the sale of a herbal mixture in a commercial bus in Lagos.
The agency brought a two-count charge bordering on the sale of the mixture against Odaleye.
When the charges were read to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution counsel, Mr Shamaki Umar, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 3, 2015.
“The accused who resides at No. 1 Kulorka St., Odal, Agbara in Ogun, was arrested on the said date, where he engaged in the advertisement and sale of Katoka mixture, a herbal cleanser.
“The accused had unlawfully displayed the herbal drink to the public for distribution and sale.
“The offence contravened the provisions of sections 2 (1) (a) of the Counterfeit and Unwholesome Processed Foods (Miscellaneous Offence) Act, Cap C 34, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The Defence Counsel, Mrs Pamela Amadi, applied for bail for her client.
The judge, Justice Saliu Saidu, granted the accused person bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.
The judge said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused person and ordered that he be remanded at Ikoyi Prison till he fulfilled the bail conditions.
He adjourned the case to March 3 for trial.
