N5,000 stipend controversy: Opposition attempting to confuse Nigerians – Hon. Suleiman

The member representing Kaduna North Federal constituency, Hon. Samaila Suleiman has described as unfortunate misinterpretation of government’s intention, with regard to the N5,000, which was promised certain category of Nigerians.

He expressed this feeling while speaking exclusively with DAILY POST in Abuja, noting that the stipend, which the APC promised Nigerians was not for job seekers, but was meant for extremely poor people.

He explained that not all job seekers were poor.

“I was very close to the campaign of APC and it is quite unfortunate that people seem to misinterpret things. I have heard that there would be N5,000 stipend for less privileged ones, not for job seekers and the reason is that one can be financially buoyant and still be seeking for job. One can be in a good business, but still be seeking for job”, he explained.

He was optimistic that Buhari led administration would deliver on promises, while advising the opposition to restrategise for constructive interpretation of government policies instead of expeditious attempt to discredit the ruling party.

“Government is not a game of ‘ludo’ where players get results by chance,” he said, stressing that governance did not thrive on frivolity anymore.

“I want opposition to calm down, because governance is not a game of ludo, where you play and get result by chance. Mr. President is not deterred as he is committed to those promises. I tell you that frivolous accusation in the name politics no longer works in Nigeria”, he insisted.

Suleiman opined that the 2016 Budget would be passed in the next 2 weeks without any hitch as both chambers were currently harmonizing issues.

“Hopefully the budget will be passed in the next 2 weeks without conflict of interest from anywhere and if there was one, it is based on principles, which probably was as a result of the fact that the legislature wants its 100% implementation”, he maintained.
