The ding dong fight between ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the South West, Buruji Kashamu before Justice Valentine Ashi of the FCT High Court has been adjourned to the 17th of November, 2014.
Justice Valentine Ashi adjourned the case after listening to the testimonies of two witnesses called by the plaintiff, Kashamu. The witnesses informed the court that they had been associates of the plaintiff but had to severe their relationship with him after getting to know through Obasanjo that he is a criminal.
Buruji Kashamu dragged Obasanjo to court claiming N20 billion in damages after the ex-president wrote letters to President Goodluck Jonathan and former PDP chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur concerning the frontline roles Kashamu has been playing in the party in the Southwest geo-political zone of the country. The letter contained critical views Kashamu believes are injurious to his person and reputation.
According to Alhaji Haruna Rasheed, who said he had known Kashamu for the past 10 years and handle printing services for all his companies; “Before the publication, I was the one carrying out “bulk printing services for the plaintiff’s several companies over the years. My refusal to associate with him after the said publication is due to the fact that I have not seen or read any retraction by the defendant.
For Mr. Omotayo Alade-Fawole, who said he had served Kashamu for about four years as a protocol officer, he decided to distance himself from Kashamu after he saw publications from Obasanjo suggesting that his principal had criminal records.
Kashamu had informed the court that the defendant maliciously and recklessly published a letter titled “Before it is too late”, which to him contained distorted facts, praying the court to award in his favour N20 billion damages against the defendant and a retraction of the said offensive letter.
Ex-President, Obasanjo has refused to retract the content of the letter or apologize to Kashamu, claiming that “the statement/words are correct, true and justified”.
