A Lagos Federal High Court presided over by Justice Ibrahim Buba on Monday fixed January 18, 2016 for the trial of former boss of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi and five others, for alleged theft of N2.6bn.
The Economic and Fianancial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned Akpobolokemi alongside Ezekiel Agaba, Ekene Nwakuche, Amaechi Juan, two companies namely, Blockz and Stonez Ltd and Al-Kenzo Logistic Ltd on a 22-count charge bordering on conversion and theft of funds.
Having pleaded not guilty by all the accused persons, justice Buba granted them bail in the sum of N50 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Buba further ordered the accused to sign an undertaking not to unnecessarily delay speedy trial.
The presiding Judge consequently adjourned the case till Jan. 18, 2016 for trial.
The accused persons had in January 9, 2014 converted about N66 million, and between April and August 2014 also converted the sums of N21 million and N53 million respectively to their personal use.
The total sum of money allegedly converted by the accused reportedly amounted to about N2.6 billion.
