Governor Sullivan Chime
Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Monday expressed optimism that his successor would not disappoint the aspirations of the people of the State.
The Governor, who spoke as he flagged of the Peoples Democratic Party’s campaign in the State alongside the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said he was convinced that his successor would sustain the tempo of development in the state.
Similarly, the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi asked the people of the state to endeavour to obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) from INEC in order to fully participate in next month’s general elections.
Speaking at the flag-off of the party’s campaigns to local government areas at Ikem, headquarters of Isi-Uzo council, Governor Chime expressed optimism that Ugwuanyi would emerge victorious at the polls considering his popularity and acceptability in all the 17 councils of the state.
While expressing appreciation to the people of the state for their overwhelming support to his administration, he said, “We’ve come to renew our partnership with the people of Isiuzo. Your chairman has already said we’ve delivered 95 per cent on our promises to you which means we are committed to fulfilling our promises.
“We have therefore come to ask for more support for our candidates in order to have a smooth transition on May 29 this year”.
On his part, the gubernatorial candidate said he had adopted Continuity and Consolidation as the main thrust of his manifesto to the people of the state, noting that it would be wrong to deviate from the tempo of development already set by the present administration.
While thanking the governor and party members in the state for finding him worthy to fly the party’s flag, Ugwuanyi said the fact that the state had witnessed uncommon transformation and massive infrastructural development under Governor Chime had made his electioneering campaign much easier.
“Our party has performed well in Enugu state, that’s why it’s easier for us to come back to ask for more support. We are grateful to the governor because of the tremendous goodwill he has brought to the state. The best we can do is to continue from where he will stop. I can assure you that we’ll have seamless continuity,” he said.
While urging the people to continue in prayers for the campaign team, Ugwuanyi who also presented his Running mate, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo promised to complete the state Diagnostic Centre when he comes on board in order to fully address the health needs of the people.
Other speakers at the rally which attracted a mammoth crowd of party supporters including, the Council chairman, Augustine Nnamani, Senator Gil Nnaji, Ambassador Kingsley Ebenyi and the party’s chairman, Ikeje Asogwa thanked the people for their belief in the PDP, promising not to disappoint them.
