Erstwhile Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has spoken through Order 43 of Senate Rules on Wednesday that his removal as Senate Leader which was announced by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Tuesday was a mistake.
Dissatisfied with the way, his removal was ‘hatched’ when he was not present at sitting on Tuesday, Ndume said he had no regret for any misconduct on his part, hence he has accepted his fate.
“Distinguished Colleagues, when I was elected as Senate Leader barely a year ago, I told you people that I am not better than anyone here and if you feel, you have lost confidence in me, I have accepted it like that,” he said.
“What gladdens my heart is that my conscience is free of any wrong doing,” he insisted.
Ndume argued that he would have been informed and given the chance to explain if there was any issue before taking action of such nature.
According to him, it was wrong for Senator Dino Melaye to go about collecting signatures of his colleagues for alleged mischief which Senate President was lured into, advising that the Senate as an institution should always be careful.
“I was not at any point told of my wrong doing as it were, but what Dino did calls for caution on the part of the Senate. Today, it is Ali Ndume, God forbid, tomorrow it could Ekweremadu,” he expressed.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over Wednesday plenary in his ruling thanked Ali Ndume for his contribution to national development.
He assured him that he would continue to be engaged in other strategic assignments because of his wealth of experience.
