A housewife, Ikilima Yakubu, on Wednesday prayed a Sharia Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna to terminate her marriage to her abusive husband, Sabi’u Mustapha.
Yakubu told the court that she was no longer interested in the marriage because her husband was fond of beating her whenever there was a disagreement.
She said Mustapha allegedly broke her wrist while beating her, NAN reports.
“I took my belongings and went to my parent’s house.
“I stayed with my parents for six months and he never came to check on me. I am praying to the court to terminate our marriage, I can’t continue living with him,” she said.
She said when she left Mustapha, she was eight months pregnant.
The defendant, Mustapha, 33, a businessman, who resides at Sabon Wuse, Abuja, denied all the allegations.
Mustapha said that his wife slipped and injured her wrist during an argument.
“I have never raised my hands on any of my wives and I never wrote or pronounce divorce on her,” he said.
The Judge, Murtala Nasir, ordered Mustapha to beg his wife and ensure they settled their differences.
He adjourned until July 24, for report on settlement or judgment.
