My husband beats me for drinking his two cans of milk – Wife tells court

A 26-year-old housewife, Aishat Kazeem, has urged an Ojaoba Sharia Court of Arbitration to dissolve her 18-month marriage to her husband, Dikrulai, following constant beating by the latter.

In her petition before the court, Aishat, a mother of two , said that Dikrulai had already ordered her to pack out of their matrimonial home for alleged consumption of two tins of evaporated milk.

“My lord, as Dikrulai always did, he told me to leave his house because his two children and I drank two tins of evaporated milk which he kept in the room.

“During the last Ramadan fast, I made use of two out of the six tins of evaporated milk he kept in the room.

“ Dikrulai battered me severely and pronounced that he doesn’t want to have anything to do with me anymore.

“Usually, Kazeem holds grudges with me on minor issues like lateness in cooking his meals.

“ His relatives had several times settled most of these quarrels, but things are not getting any better.

“However, in the latest incident, Kazeem gave me N1,000, saying he has paid me off for the period of next three months when he expects me to have completely moved away from his home,” Aisha said.

Kazeem was, however, not in court to defend the allegations against him.

The President of the court, Hamad Tiamiyu, requested Aishat to put her statement in writing in addition to providing five witnesses who must be three females and two male or vice versa.

Tiamiyu adjourned the case till Sept. 29 for further hearing. (NAN)
