Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has countered the claim that members of the Boko Haram are Islamic faithful.
According to him, Nigerians should look beyond religion as reason for the protracted insurgency in the country.
Moro, stated this at Okpoga, in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, where he monitored the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, House of Assembly congresses.
He was reacting to last Friday’s bombing of a Kano Mosque, which claimed the lives of over 150 worshippers.
The minister lamented that the latest onslaught came at a time when Nigerians were heaving a sigh of relief that the activities of the insurgents and suicide bombers were abating.
Moro said, “Contrary to insinuations in some quarters about the religious coloration of the insurgency; this latest bomb blast at the Central mosque goes to show that the suicide bombers are not necessarily true adherence of Islam. We all know that the mosque is a well known place for worshippers and believers of Islam; and so, it means that Nigerians will have to look a little beyond religion, a little beyond the mundane to locate the real causes of the insurgency”.
