Murder: Court sentences two to death by hanging in Ekiti

An ekiti State High Court sitting in Ikole Ekiti on Thursday sentenced two men identified as Segun Adeyemo and Gboye Babaniwura to death for murder.

The men were sentenced for killing two men, names given as Yeti Abubakar and Sikiru Ahmadu at the premises of the police station in Iluomoba Ekiti on September 13, 2011.

The Judge, Justice Abiodun Adesodun explained that he found the accused persons guilty, holding that the prosecution has proved the case of murder preferred against them beyond reasonable doubt.

He ruled on Thursday,“I hereby sentence you, the first accused person, Segun Adeyemo and the second accused person, Gboye Babaniwura to death by hanging until life goes out of you. May the Lord have mercy on your souls.”

State counsel, Femi Onipede, explained to the court that the two men committed the offence at Iluomoba Ekiti in Gbonyin local government area of the state

Onipede further explained that on the said date, the accused persons murdered the victims by hitting them with axe on their foreheads, an offence which contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria as applicable in Ekiti State.
